Wildcats Conclude Season with Matches Played at Wagner on Sunday

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - In matches played at Wagner on Sunday, Villanova (3-24, 0-10 MAAC) concluded the season with losses to Siena (15-9) and Iona (15-7) in the final two matches of the regular season. The Wildcats received strong play from seniors Carla Martinez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) and Julie Ramaley (Old Greenwich, Conn.) in their final collegiate matches.

Villanova began its day with a match against Siena and was defeated 15-9. Martinez, who scored 13 goals in four matches during the weekend, led the Wildcats with four goals against the Saints. Freshman Maria Apablasa (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) scored two goals and Ramaley and freshman Kathleen Maloney (Chicago, Ill.) had one goal apiece.

Later in the day, Villanova faced Iona and was dealt a 15-7 loss. Martinez had three goals and Ramaley two in the match, while Maloney and Apablasa scored once each.

The Wildcats finish the season with a 3-24 overall record and saw their streak of five straight postseason appearances come to an end.
